Website Maintenance Checklist for Plumbers and HVAC Shops

SPYCE MediaOct 12, 2026

Your website works a lot like the equipment on your trucks. If nobody checks it, it keeps running right up until the day it does not. For plumbers and HVAC shops, that usually means a broken form, a slow page or old info that quietly sends calls to the competition.

This checklist keeps things simple. Use it yourself, hand it to someone in the office, or let a care plan handle it for you.

Weekly checks

These take about ten minutes and catch the problems that cost you the most.

  • Test your contact form. Fill it out yourself and make sure the message lands in the right inbox.
  • Tap your phone number on a phone. Click-to-call should open the dialer with the right number.
  • Check your emergency info. If you offer 24/7 service, make sure that message is easy to find on the home page.
  • Look at your Google Business Profile. Confirm your hours match your site and answer any new reviews.

Monthly checks

Once a month, take a slightly deeper look.

  • Run updates. Update your site software, theme and plugins. Take a backup first.
  • Confirm backups are running. You should have recent daily backups stored off the server.
  • Check page speed on mobile. Use a free tool like Google PageSpeed Insights. Most homeowners will find you on a phone.
  • Click through your main pages. Look for broken links, missing images or pages that look off on mobile.
  • Update seasonal messaging. Push furnace tune-ups in the fall, AC checks in the spring, and frozen pipe help when the cold hits.
  • Add a recent job. A few new project photos or a short write-up shows visitors you are busy and active.

Quarterly checks

Every few months, step back and look at the bigger picture.

  • Review your services list. Add anything new, like water heater installs or heat pumps, and remove what you no longer offer.
  • Review your service area. If you have started working in new towns, add them. A dedicated page for each key area can help you show up in local searches.
  • Refresh reviews on the site. Pull a few of your best recent Google reviews onto your home page or service pages.
  • Check your search results. Search for your main services plus your town and see where you show up.
  • Look at your leads. Are form fills and calls from the site going up, down or flat? That tells you whether the site is doing its job.

Yearly checks

Once a year, handle the bigger items.

  • Renew your domain and SSL. An expired domain can take your site offline overnight.
  • Review your branding. Make sure your logo, truck wrap and site all feel like the same company.
  • Update your about page and team photos. Homeowners like to know who is coming to their house.
  • Check licenses and certifications. Keep license numbers, insurance info and manufacturer badges current.
  • Decide if the site still fits. If the site is slow, hard to update or looks dated, it may be time for a redesign instead of more patches.

Signs something needs attention right now

Do not wait for the next scheduled check if you notice any of these:

  • Calls from the website suddenly drop
  • Customers mention your site is hard to use on their phone
  • You see a security warning in the browser
  • Pages take more than a few seconds to load
  • Your form stops sending messages

Any one of these can cost you jobs every single day it goes unfixed.

Why plumbers and HVAC shops need this more than most

Home-service searches are often urgent. A homeowner with a burst pipe or a dead AC unit in July is not going to wait for a slow site to load. They will hit back and call the next company. That makes speed, a working phone button and clear service info more important for your trade than for almost any other kind of business.

Seasonal swings matter too. If your site still talks about AC tune-ups when the first freeze hits, you are leaving furnace calls on the table. The same goes for plumbers heading into winter, when frozen and burst pipe calls spike. A site that speaks to what homeowners are dealing with right now will always earn more calls than one stuck in last season.

Doing it yourself vs handing it off

Everything on this list is doable on your own. The real question is whether you or your team will actually do it every week and every month, during the busy season, after a long day on calls.

Many owners start strong and then the checklist slips. That is exactly why care plans exist. With Website Care from SPYCE, we handle the weekly, monthly and yearly items for you, plus one meaningful improvement each month based on a monthly objective we set together. You text or email a change and it usually goes live the same day.

Print it, save it, or skip it

Save this checklist, print it for the office or put the weekly items on a recurring reminder. If you would rather spend that time on jobs, book a quick 15 minute call and we will walk through what your site needs.
